The idea of building the New Administrative Capital was to relieve the pressure on the old capital, Greater Cairo.

The idea of building the New Administrative Capital was to relieve the pressure on the old capital, Greater Cairo, one of the busiest capital cities in the world with a population of about 18 million, as well as a daily destination of millions more. Additionally, Cairo's population is expected to double to nearly 40 million in the near future. The New Administrative Capital is located east of Cairo and covers an area of 700 square kilometers, in the area between the Cairo-Suez and Cairo-Ain Sokhna roads, it falls east of the regional ring road, close to the red sea.
